As we were entering the elevator in the hotel lobby, I was thinking what an adult my brother has become. I’ve been driving across the country with him, his wife and his four-month-old baby. He’s moving to his new home in Washington to start his government job and begin the rest of his life.

As I am thinking about all this, I notice a mirror across from us. I could see the man at the front desk watching us. As I made eye contact with him, I fell to my knees because my brother had just punched me in the crotch. The elevator door closed at that moment and we went to the second floor and my brother can't stop laughing.

I dropped off five copies of my mini-comics for consignment at Quimby’s this past December. Since I’m moving tomorrow, I decide to collect the sixty cents for the one copy I sold and get the other four copies back to mail to friends.

While I was there I bought a copy of Simon Rich’s Ant Farm. The clerk gave me a 10 percent discount because people who have stuff on consignment get a discount. What the fuck! Why didn’t someone tell me that before? I have easily spent 500 dollars at Quimby’s since December.

The money I made wasn't applied to my purchase. Now I have to decide what I am going to spend this 60 cents on. Any suggestions?

My landlord called to let me know the police would be stopping by. He had gotten a call from them the night before about the bench on our porch being stolen from a park in Ypsilanti. Craig and Ethan were here when the police came to get it. When Amber came back no one told her what happened. She left a note downstairs that said something like "What happen to the bench outside," or "What the fuck happen to the bench outside." When she was here I told her it was a stolen bench. She said "Yeah, I know that," because the people who lived here before told her they stole it. Then she said "The city most have seen it whenYi [our landlord] put it on the sidewalk after painting our porch." I am glad the city got it back.

I decide I would do the smart thing and ride my bike to the library. I thought the people in their cars would feel foolish as I passed them on my bike. Ha ha, suckers, you should have known that the construction would slow you down.
When I crossed over 94 and actually ran into the construction on Hamilton I freak out. Holy smokes, there is no bike bath here! There isn’t even a sidewalk and hey, these cars are really close to me. I could only image who was laughing now.
I decided to cut through a park and take a short ride around the lake. It would be a nice detour. It was fun getting lost. I was finding all these cool bike paths and seeing parts of Ypsilanti I have never seen before. It was fun at first. It was going to reshape my vision of the town.
Well, the lake ain’t that small. Sometimes the bike paths that went through the woods would just end and I would have to turn around. I should have went back but I kept thinking I only have a little farther to go and surely I was closer then I was far away.
By the time I got to the library two hours had passed. And I had this huge pain in my butt. I didn’t have the most comfortable seat. I would ride standing as long as I could but eventually the pressure on my palms would hurt too much.
I only spent about ten minutes in the library. I returned my books and grabbed a couple videos for my Culture and the Holocaust class.
I told myself I would cut through the construction traffic and call it a day. It wouldn’t be as bad as getting lost again. When I got to the traffic part I freaked out again and went around the lake. It took another two hours.
Next time I go I’ll just drive.

The best way I can describe my relationship with my mom is by quoting something she asked me when she called last week. “Chris, Do you know that you’re not suppose to put peanut-butter in the fridge? You put it in the pantry, but you don’t put jelly in the pantry after it has been open. You know that, right?” Yes mom, I have figured that out.
My mom stopped by to do a week worth of laundry she had from staying at the veterans hospital in Ann Arbor. She has been going through chemotherapy because she has ovarian cancer. She was waiting in her car outside of my apartment when I got back from my Culture on the Holocaust class at EMU. She looked good. I was worried because I have heard some rough stuff about chemotherapy.
We had some time to kill and it was around lunchtime so I told her I would take her out for lunch. We went to the Golden Wall. My friend Ben Miller works there and it’s walking distance from where I live.
When Ben was taking our order my mom smiled at Ben and told him he has really nice eyes. Ben smiled back and said someone elses mom had told him the same thing. When Ben left my said Ben looks really friendly and like a person you can easily trust. She was still smiling as she told me that but then started to frown. Then she said, “Unlike that beedy eyed bastard George W. Bush.” I am not sure if she clinched her fist but I could picture her doing it.
When I went to grab something to eat before my 7:00PM class I had found that someone had put their peanut butter in the fridge. It was probabley Jason Voss that put it there.

Adam had to get a lawyer because six month ago the police took his laptop. They just came in his house one day and took it. Before that Adam was using some else wireless Internet and it happen to be the sheriffs. The sheriff is accuses him of hacking into his files that he kept on his personal computer. He hasn’t gotten his laptop back or been press with any charges.

The lawyer Adam is using is someone his parent suggested. He had gotten someone off who stole a bunch of cows. The guy just pull up to someone’s house with his trailer and stole a bunch of their cows. Because they were neighbors they saw the stolen cows at this guys farm. The lawyer augment was “Hey they’re cows, they all look the same.” Now that’s what I call an airtight case.

The person’s cows that were stolen belonged to Adams parents. They had to declare bankruptcy because of it. That’s why they insist he is a good lawyer.

Over the 4th of July I was talking to my friend’s mom at the beach while her daughter was taking their dog home. I asked her if she ever thought of moving back to Japan to be closer to her family. She said she would eventually like to move back but her daughter are her family and they are just starting an important part in their there lives and she feels she needs to be here for them.

I ask her what her parents thought of her moving to America, and she said that they were scared at first. She said their likes America but from watching American films it seemed like it was violent place that had a lot of crime. I am sure that was around the time movies like Godfather, Taxi Driver and Scar Face were popular films. I am not sure how popular little house on the prairie was.

In the journalism class I was taking one my friends was saying that in when he was in Kosovo and Gorazde people views of America came from the films Americans make.

American films just seem so violent. Even in most Disney cartoons the climax of the film when protagonist dies. He is never killed but I think it still says something that the happy ending is someone’s death.

This weekend I was watching Hayao Miyazaki’s animated movie Nausicaa. Just like many of his films it has this beautiful vision of peace and balance. There are no real villains just misunderstanding. Even with Miyazaki’s growing popularity I don’t think most Americans watch Japanese films like Battle Royal which is about a game show were a network picks a school and the prize your life and you have to kill everyone to win. Or Itchie the Killer were the main character is murder and a rapist.

On 60 minutes they had story about a Dutch director and a member of the Dutch Parliament who was a Muslims women that made a movie saying parts of the Koran tolerate violence against women. Some people in the Muslims community thought that it was so out of line that the director was stab to death when he was riding his bike. 60 minutes did a one sided interview were they just interview Muslim radicals and not once interview a Muslim that would criticize the murder. I am sure most Muslim would not tolerate any form of murder. That would be as silly as saying all Christian like blowing up people because they sure seem to love doing for a few decades in Northern Ireland and at abortion clinics in the states.

I am glad to find out that even three years after quiting my job at Dunkin Dounuts I still getting the employee discount, which by the way means free.

I spent the last few days at home. Yesterday I got the urge to go into to town and see some people. I have come to the conclusion that all my friends that never left the area and still live in northeast michigan are lame. I am not going to waste my time hanging out with them even if that means free doughnuts. It shouldn't be to hard. There is only two of them. I am actually specifically thinking of two people. If I haven't seen you this summer I am not talking about you, Adam.

What really bothers me is people who make jokes about, mullets, midgets, midget wrestling, hippys, disco ect... It is not funny.

When I was hanging out with Chris last night he told me a joke that went like this "There is probably going to a Beatles reunion pretty soon." That is not funny and it wasn't funny when he told me it three years either when George Harrison died. That guy has to work on some new materal.

Last week I saw a documentary on Brian Wilson. There was a part of the documentary that when someone mentioned Alice Copper and Iggy Pop went over to Wilson house. The story ends with Iggy Pop saying to Alice Copper "This guy is nuts. I am leaving." I told this to Chris and all he could say was "The Beach Boys suck." First off they don't suck and second that isn't the point. If anything it should play off his misconception of the band (or the man, Brian Wilson, who Chris kept referring to as one of the guys in the Beach Boys)

Not only does it make it easy to tell when the book is due back but it tells a little story too.
Yesterday I check out checked out Kurt Vonnegut's book Cat's Cradle. I think it's weird that this is only the second time in over decade that anyone from Alcona has checked this book out from the library. I guess the 90's weren't a popular time to be reading Vonnegut. Also I asume that every time it was check out between a two week period it was because they hadn't finished reading it.
